Volunteers operate the miniature trains outside, run the inside layout. Maintain the outside railroad cars, locomotives, tracks & switches.
Inside trains need constant cleaning, maintenance, & updates.
Volunteers interact with Visitors sharing Naples unique railroad history and just talking about our model trains!
Ways to Help
Inside Layout
Switch out Trains on a schedule.
Model train maintenance involves cleaning the track to ensure conductivity, cleaning and lubricating locomotive and rolling stock wheels and gears to ensure smooth movement and inspecting and repairing electrical connections.
Outside Trains
Train Crews consist of:
Engineer piloting either a Steam or Diesel Locomotive
Conductor boards passengers and ensures train & passenger safety.
Gateman ensures the safe operation of gates at the automobile crossing.
Track Maintenance

Railroad track maintenance involves regular inspections, cleaning, and repair of the track components—rails, ties, ballast.
Key activities include visual inspections, ballast tamping and rail and tie replacement

Volunteers repair and rebuild historic model trains in the museum’s collection as well as the miniature trains. Work includes mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, and metal work. Whether you are a master tradesman or DYI, we can use your skills!
